Ledger.com/Start – Official Setup Guide for Ledger Wallet*

A clear, secure step-by-step walkthrough to set up your Ledger hardware wallet. Read everything once before you begin.

Overview & safety notes

Before you start: ensure you received an unopened official Ledger package. Keep time, power, and a pen nearby. Never share your 24-word recovery phrase with anyone — Ledger staff will never ask for it.

Step 1
Install Ledger Live

Download the official Ledger Live app from ledger.com/start on a trusted device. Follow on-screen prompts to install and open Ledger Live. Do not accept apps or downloads from unverified sources.

Step 2
Initialize your Ledger hardware

Connect your Ledger device by cable, follow the device's prompts to create a new wallet, select a PIN, and confirm each step on the device screen. This process generates your recovery phrase.

Step 3
Write down your recovery phrase

Do this offline. Use the supplied recovery sheet or a secure metal backup. Keep the 24 words offline, stored in a safe location. Never take photographs or store the phrase in cloud services or password managers.

Step 4
Install apps & receive

Open Ledger Live to install cryptocurrency apps (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum) on your device and create accounts. Always verify addresses on the Ledger device before sending funds.

Tip: Keep your device firmware up to date. Ledger Live notifies you about official firmware updates.
Security: Use a long PIN (avoid repeating digits). Consider a passphrase only if you understand how it works — losing it means losing access.
Recovery: Test a small transfer first to confirm your setup before moving large amounts.
Support: Visit ledger.com/support for official documentation and contact options.
